Music review analysis

This is my analysis of a review of Clare Maguire from the sunday times magazine:

Answer these questions before reading the article:

  1.      What do you think is the relevance of the term ‘Talking Topshop Blues’?
This Heading suggests that someone perhaps famous will be talking about how they feel about Topshop – ‘Blues’, not happy, sadness.

That she is a meaningful singer, who sings quite calm music, looks gothic with the red twigs and jet black hair
5.      What are you initial impressions of this music feature?
There is lots of text, so people must have to be interested in reading about music. People who buy music magazines want to read about the music. This text to picture ration is too high, it could be broken up using images, subheadings, quotes etc.

The writers compare her to previous year’s extremely successful artists.

Because she is ‘suffering from a cold and nursing a fruit tea, in a café in Brixton’

Describing her appearance and how she is representing herself.

How she is a dark-pop girl and a dark and trouble soul and the bluesy genre of her music.
8.      In paragraph five, what point is made about Maguire’s relationship with music?
Her feelings of ‘apartness’, pain and sorrow. It helps her express her feelings.

10.  What tone does the article end?
A positive tone, expectation, it is a new artist, and who can potentionally do well in the industry.
11.  Which current artist is Maguire most similar to?
Ellie Goulding, Pixie Lott, Florence Welch.
